Vigevano, ciudad natal de Diana

Esta pequeña cuidad fue fundada alrededor del siglo X (o los escritos mas antiguos que se tienen son de esta época) como un burgo medieval llamado "Vicogebuin" protegido por un castillo amurallado, un canal (naviglio), y varios fosos. Hoy en día después de innumerables modificaciones a lo largo del tiempo, las mas importantes durante la época de Ludovico il Moro, el atractivo de la ciudad son su castillo con la torre diseñada por Donato Bramante, la plaza ducal y la iglesia de San Ambrosio, con la ingeniosa fachada que cierra la plaza.

Ludovico el Moro y su esposa Beatrice d'Est, mandan construir, o mejor dicho reconstruir la torre que da acceso al castillo, Bramante, construye la torre, mucho mas grande y majestuosa desde arriba se goza de una espectacular vista de la ciudad, la parte baja es un pasaje que comunica la plaza con "Il cortile" del castillo.
También se crea una calle alta, que está totalmente cubierta y comunica el castillo con la fortaleza de defensa de la ciudad.
La plaza, fue construida en 1492 (por el mismo Ludovico) y consiste aún hoy de 3 logias perimetrales arcadas que consentían a mercaderes de vender sus lanas y telas.
En el siglo XVII el Obispo Juan Caramuel Lobkowitz, personaje de vasta cultura, idea la nueva fachada de la iglesia y modifica la plaza para crear un espacio integral (hoy en día aparenta ser rectangular, pero la iglesia en realidad estaba fuera del eje de la plaza), quita la invasiva rampa que da acceso al castillo y crea una escalinata escondida entre los pórticos. También crea un pavimento que unifica toda la plaza.
This small town in the north of Italy was founded around the X century, a medieval castle called "Vicogebuin", the castle was protected by a canal, the walls and the moat.
Today the most important features of this town are the castle with it's tower and the Piazza with the curved facade to the church of Saint Ambrosio.

The castle had many modifications, the most important in the time of Ludovico il Moro, he and his wife Beatrice d'Est, made a magnificent castle, an elevated road that linked to the stables and the tower. This Tower was designed by famous Donato Bramante and it made an important entrance to the castle from the piazza.
The piazza had, and still has a 3 sided portico with regular columns. In the XVII century the Bishop Juan Caramuel Lobkowitz, decide to integrate the church that was out of axis to the piazza, and came with the idea of a curved facade with 4 openings, only 3 are part of the church. The fourth is a street, but from the piazza, the facade closes the space and enhances both, the piazza and the church. The entrance to the castle was taken from the piazza and moved inwards making a grand staircase between the portico columns.
